Hey Maria! Love what you're doing at Café Cubano — I made something specifically for restaurants like yours.
Wait what do you mean made something?
A free 2-week Instagram content plan for Little Havana spots — built to match the vibe you're going for. Want me to send it over?

Cold DM Template

Personal, specific, zero templates. The goal is one reply — not a pitch. Change the bracketed parts only. Never copy-paste the whole thing verbatim.

Hey [FIRST NAME]! I came across [RESTAURANT NAME] on Instagram — saw the posts you're putting out and the vibe you're building. Really solid. I actually built something for [MIAMI NEIGHBORHOOD — Coral Gables / Wynwood / Little Havana / South Beach / Coconut Grove] restaurants specifically — it's a free 2-week content plan that matches the kind of content that actually works in this neighborhood. Not a template. Built around what makes Miami restaurants different. If you're open to it, I'd love to send it over — no strings attached. Worst case, you get some free ideas. Want it?

Research first

Look at their last 6 posts before DMing. Reference something specific — a dish, a neighborhood event, their caption style. Generic DMs die in the request folder.

No pitch in the opener

The first message is not about Luma Local. It's about them. Don't mention pricing, plans, or contracts until they reply asking. The ask is small.

Send between 7–9 AM or 6–8 PM

Miami restaurant owners are on their phones early morning and late evening. That's when your DM gets seen, not buried under 47 others.

Sample Instagram Posts

5 posts for a fictional Wynwood/Coral Gables restaurant — "La Brisa Cocina." Use these as the sample content you attach when someone says yes to the DM.

Your Tuesday meal prep shouldn't feel like homework. 🐟 We marinate the catch of the week in citrus and ají amarillo, then finish it on the grill — just like Abuela taught us. Weeknight dinner, elevated.

Behind every great kitchen: two decades of fire, family, and rice that's never stuck. 👨‍🍳 Chef Dani has been doing this since before Wynwood was Wynwood. Here's what that actually means for your plate.

DM Script: "I Made Something For You"

Follow the sequence. Each step builds on the last. Don't jump ahead — let the conversation breathe.

Research + Personalize

Before hitting send, spend 90 seconds on their profile. Find something specific — a new dish, a neighborhood reference, a post that clearly took effort. Reference it naturally.

"Hey [Name] — I noticed you just started posting videos of your kitchen. The empanada reel was really well done."
The Hook

Offer the free sample, not the product

Don't pitch Luma Local yet. Offer something free that proves value. Mention Miami specifically — it signals you've done the work.

"I actually built something for Miami restaurants — a free 2-week content plan that matches what works in your neighborhood specifically. Not a template. Want me to send it?"
If They Say Yes

Deliver the sample via DM or Loom

Send the content plan as a PDF or a Loom walkthrough (2 minutes max). Don't make them wait. Show, don't pitch.

"Perfect — sending now. [DM the PDF or Loom link]. Let me know if anything resonates — happy to explain the thinking."
If They Engage

Ask one diagnostic question

Once they've seen the sample, ask about their current situation — not a sales question, a real one.

"Curious — when you look at your Instagram, what part feels like the biggest time sink? Like, what do you dread posting?"
The Ask

Book a 15-minute call — after they answer

Never pitch on the first reply. Build rapport through 2–3 exchanges, then offer the call. The call is where pricing and plans live.

"That makes sense. I work with a few restaurants here in Wynwood and Coral Gables who had the same thing — takes about 15 minutes to see if we're a fit. Worth a quick chat?"

Response Tracking

Build your Notion or Google Sheet the same way. Every row is one restaurant. Track everything from first DM to close.

What to Track

Keep one row per restaurant. Update the status column every few days. This becomes your pipeline — and your evidence of what's working.

Restaurant Neighborhood DM Sent Status Notes
Café Miami Little Havana Jun 8 Replied Interested in content plan
Verde Kitchen Coral Gables Jun 9 Meeting booked Call Thu 2pm
El Bocaizo Wynwood Jun 10 Sent No reply yet
Ostra South Beach South Beach Jun 7 Closed Went with competitor

Google Sheet Setup

5 minutes to set up — use this structure. Copy the headers, start filling rows. The moment you get a reply, update the status.

Call Booked?

Quick setup steps:

  • Open Google Sheets → create new sheet called "Luma Local Outreach"
  • Row 1: add headers — Restaurant | Neighborhood | DM Date | Status | Notes | Call?
  • Status options: Sent → Replied → Call Booked → Closed Won → Closed Lost
  • Color-code rows by status (green = replied, yellow = sent, red = closed lost)
  • Sort by "Status" column so active conversations float to the top

Ready to send the first DM?

100 restaurants. 100 DMs. Pick the first 10 this week, track every one, let the data tell you what's working.
